ELECO MGR Series RCCB: IEC61008-1 Residual Current Protection from 16A to 100A

2026-09-10

Our MGR Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB) cuts off power automatically once leakage current exceeds the preset threshold, protecting personnel and connected equipment from earth fault hazards. TheELECO MGR Series RCCB is designed and type-tested to IEC61008-1, covering 16A–100A rated current, 2-pole and 4-pole versions, and 10mA/30mA/100mA sensitivity. It comes with a 6kA conditional short-circuit rating and can trip quickly within 0.04s at 5×IΔn. That makes it a solid pick for residential Distribution Boards, commercial panels and industrial installations requiring reliable earth-fault protection.

Selection guide by application

Choosing the right rated current and residual sensitivity helps avoid unwanted tripping and ensures better protection coordination within your circuit. This table serves as a practical starting point. Final selection should always consider your project load profile, local wiring codes and ratings of upstream and downstream protective devices.

Application Recommended In IΔn Poles Reason
Residential sockets / wet rooms 16–32A 30mA (10mA for extra-wet areas) 2P Additional protection against electric shock
Residential main incoming 63A 30mA 2P Whole-dwelling earth-leakage protection
Commercial offices/retail 25–40A branches; 80–100A main 30mA branches; 100mA main 2P / 4P People protection downstream, selectivity upstream
Industrial machines / MCC 40–100A 30mA or 100mA by equipment leakage 4P Handles three-phase loads and coordination with MCB/mccb
HVAC / pump/compressor panels 63–100A 100mA 4P Fewer nuisance trips while keeping ground-fault isolation

Field example

For a food-processing retrofit, replacing mixed old RCDs with MGR-100A/4P/100mA on the main board and MGR-40A/4P/30mA on machine branches reduced unwanted trips while keeping fast disconnection for true earth faults. The upgrade cut down nuisance trips while still delivering fast disconnection when genuine earth faults occurred.
Actual performance depends on existing cable insulation, harmonic loads, and your site testing schedule. We suggest carrying out an on-site leakage survey before you lock in final sizing.

Installation and maintenance checklist

  • Mount on standard 35mm DIN rail. Leave enough space for cable bending and clearly mark line and load sides.
  • Use copper conductors within terminal capacity; up to 35mm² is supported for 80–100A units.
  • Tighten terminals to the specified torque: 2.5N·m for 16–63A models, 3.5N·m for 80–100A. Always recheck torque after commissioning.
  • Keep in mind: an RCCB alone cannot protect against overload or short circuit. Pair it with an MCB or mccb for full circuit protection.
  • Press the TEST button every month. Record trip status during routine preventive maintenance.
  • If your system includes VFD, UPS, or DC leakage loads, confirm whether Type AC/A/B is required before specifying our AC-type MGR units.

Why specify ELECO MGR

  • Built to meet standards: Designed and type-tested to IEC61008-1. We can provide batch test data upon request.
  • Fast, reliable tripping: 0.04s trip speed at 5×IΔn quickly clears earth faults.
  • Panel-friendly build: Compact 45mm module, lug/pin terminals, and rated for 6kA coordination with upstream protection gear.
  • Full procurement support: Datasheets, IEC certificate copies, CAD drawings and model lists are available for BOQ preparation and tender submissions.

FAQ

What standard does the ELECO MGR RCCB follow?

The MGR series is designed and type-tested to IEC61008-1. Certificate copies and test reports are available on request.

How fast does the MGR RCCB trip?

At rated residual current, the breaking time is within 0.1 seconds; at 5×IΔn, it is about 0.04 seconds, which helps limit touch voltage and fault duration.

Which sensitivity should I choose for people protection?

Use 30mA for final circuits in homes, offices, and similar spaces. Use 10mA in wet or high-risk areas, and 100mA upstream or for equipment/fire-risk coordination.
