Recently, China's electrical safety sector has undergone a major update with the new edition of the "Safety Technical Specification for Residual Current Operated Circuit Breakers(RCCB)" officially coming into effect.".This marks a new phase of "precision protection and intelligent adaptation" for RCCBs (Residual Current Operated Circuit Breakers, also known as RCCB breakers), the core protective equipment in electrical safety. Many users may wonder, "What is RCCB?" Simply put, it is a safety device that detects leakage current and trips quickly. It complements the functions of MCBs (Miniature Circuit Breakers), which focus on overload protection, while RCBOs (Residual Current Operated Circuit Breakers with Overload Protection) are integrated products combining the functions of RCCBs and MCBs. Industry insiders point out that this standard upgrade will drive product iteration across the industry and further reduce the risk of safety accidents caused by electrical leakage.

According to data from the China Electrical Equipment Industry Association, electrical leakage causes a staggering 30% of fires in China each year. Behind this statistic, the failure to install compliant RCCBs or the use of outdated products is a key contributing factor. Based on the original version, the new standard optimizes three core indicators: first, it shortens the operation response time from 0.2 seconds to 0.1 seconds, significantly improving protection efficiency against electric shocks. This is particularly evident in the RCCB 30mA specification commonly used in residential buildings, where protection accuracy has been greatly enhanced; second, it expands the applicable voltage range to 110V-400V, compatible with domestic and international electrical needs in various scenarios; third, it adds requirements for intelligent fault diagnosis functions, which can provide real-time feedback on equipment operation status and facilitate regular inspection and maintenance using an RCCB tester.

"The implementation of the new standard has addressed the protection blind spots of traditional RCCBs in complex electrical scenarios," said Professor Li, a senior engineer at an electrical safety research institute. "Take new energy vehicle charging piles as an example: old products were prone to false tripping due to current fluctuations, while RCCBs complying with the new standard can accurately identify fault currents and normal fluctuations through intelligent algorithms, increasing protection accuracy by over 60%."

Reporters learned from multiple electrical equipment enterprises that leading companies have completed the R&D and mass production of new RCCBs, which have been gradually launched on the market. A spokesperson for a leading electrical manufacturer highlighted that their new RCCBs go beyond mere compliance with the updated specifications. By integrating IoT functionality, they empower users with real-time status monitoring and fault alerts via a mobile app. The product's order volume exceeded 500,000 units in the first month after its launch.

It is worth noting that the new standard also clarifies requirements for RCCB installation specifications. It stipulates that different scenarios, such as residential buildings, commercial buildings, and industrial workshops, must be equipped with RCCBs of corresponding grades. For instance, RCCB 30mA is preferred for residential use, while higher-grade products are required for industrial scenarios. During installation, the RCCB symbol (standard symbol) on the product must be verified, and commissioning and testing must be completed by professional electricians using an RCCB tester. Market supervision authorities across various regions have launched simultaneous special inspections, focusing on investigating substandard products entering the market and incorrect installation issues, while also paying attention to the proper selection and matching of RCCB and RCBO products.

Industry analysts anticipate that the full implementation of the new standard will spur a market reshuffle, favoring companies with strong R&D capabilities. Simultaneously, growing public awareness of home electrical safety is expected to fuel significant replacement demand in the existing housing stock. It is expected that China's RCCB market size will exceed 8 billion yuan in 2026, with an annual growth rate of 15%.

To help consumers and enterprises accurately select products that comply with the new standard, relevant industry associations have released the "RCCB Product Selection Guide," which clearly specifies the selection differences between RCCB and RCBO in different scenarios, the application scope of common specifications such as RCCB 30mA, and the identification method of the RCCB symbol. Consumers can check the list of certified products on the association's official website or regular e-commerce platforms. It is also recommended to regularly use an RCCB tester to inspect equipment performance and ensure effective protection functions.
